
Job Summary
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Port Moody Public Library is seeking an energetic and creative Library Technician who enjoys interacting with the public and providing excellent customer service. This regular part-time position reports to the Digital & Information Services Coordinator, and provides reader’s advisory, reference and tech help for all ages.
Port Moody Public Library is a one-branch library system that serves a community of approximately 35,000 residents. Located 30 minutes east of Vancouver on the picturesque Burrard Inlet, the library is within walking distance from the SkyTrain, seaside parks, mountain trails, the recreation centre and shopping centres. The Port Moody Public Library strives to be a welcoming and safe space for the community and is known for its dedication to customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is primarily dedicated to providing front-line service at the Information Desk and assisting with tasks and projects that improve the customer experience and the discovery of the library's resources. As part of the Digital and Information Services Team, the position assists the public with using the library's print and online collection, provides tech help for the library’s or the patrons’ computers and mobile devices, and delivers in-person and online readers' advisory and reference services. This position is ideal for candidates who are adaptable and are passionate about all forms of literacy.
REQUIREMENTS:
The current hours of work are:
- Mondays: 1pm-9pm
- Wednesdays: 9am-5pm
- Thursdays: 11am-7pm
These hours may be supplemented with auxiliary hours and are subject to change due to operational needs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- A diploma in Library and Information Technology plus a minimum of six months' job related experience.
- Knowledge of adult and children’s literature and reference resources.
- Ability to instruct/assist the public with using a variety of computer applications and devices (e.g. computers, laptops, tablets), and with accessing library resources such as eBooks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service skills including the ability to deal with challenging patrons.
- Computer skills and knowledge of automated library systems.
- Ability to handle multiple and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and to work collaboratively with others to improve services in a dynamic, collegial team environment.
