Summary: Reporting to the Library Director, the Library Services Technician works in a team environment to provide services to the Pender Island Public Library and associated reading centres in our electoral area. Emphasis is on cataloguing, with other areas of responsibility including staff training, technical support, and the delivery of various library services.
Requirements
- Degree in library studies, or Diploma in Library and Information Technology/Technician, preferred
- Combination of other relevant education and experience may be considered
- Experience working in a public library (2 years+), preferably in a multi-branch setting, preferred
- Experience working with the cataloguing module of an integrated library system, preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Superior attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of and experience with integrated library systems, particularly cataloguing modules
- Ability to edit, create, and maintain cataloguing records in a consortia environment
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing work conditions, responsibilities, and technology
- Ability to provide training to individuals/small groups in informal and formal settings
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Demonstrated ability to work with office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and standard office equipment
- Ability to thrive in an open-office environment working with others
- Ability to think creatively and see value in innovative and unconventional perspectives
- The physical stamina and ability to perform the tasks associated with this position
- Maintaining a valid BC Drivers License with access to a personal vehicle, or access to an electric scooter/bicycle is required (no public transit available)
- A Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector clearance will be required for the successful candidate
Wage: This is a full-time, non-unionized position. The current rate of pay is between $28.00-$32.50 per hour, depending on certifications and experience. Vacation Pay, Sick Pay, and Health Benefit supports are provided, following BC Employment Standards. A standard 90-day probation period will apply.
Location: The successful candidate will be based at the Pender Island Public Library, 4407 Bedwell Harbour Road, Pender Island, BC. Monthly day travel by ferry to associated reading centres in the Southern Gulf Islands will be required.
Hours of work: This position totals 35 hours per week, on weekdays and rotating Saturdays, generally between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm, with schedule flexibility required.
