Columbia College Library is seeking a full time Library Technician I to join the Library Team. This position will begin in May 2024 and end in November 2025.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Circulate library materials (charging, discharging, renewals, holds)
  • Assist patrons with library computers, copiers, and printers.
  • Assist patrons with locating library materials.
  • Demonstrate use of library website and online catalogue
  • Provide citation and reference assistance in-person or remotely.
  • Under the supervision of the Library Technician 2, catalogue materials or perform catalogue maintenance and upgrading tasks.
  • Provide technical support for electronic resources such as databases and ebooks.
  • Provide training and day-to-day supervision to student employees.
  • Maintain stack and study area organization and tidiness or delegate such tasks to student employees.
  • Assist with collection development and acquisition.
  • Perform materials processing, inventory, de-accessioning
  • Produce book displays, social media, outreach, and programs, or participate in these activities or delegate to student employees.
  • Create and upgrade LibGuides and library website content.
  • Participate in Library planning; proactively propose improvements to services, processes and direction.
  • Supports the Indigenization and EDI activities of the Library and College
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Library Technician diploma is required.
  • Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • At least 1 year of related work experience.


SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of library circulation services and procedures
  • Experience using an Integrated Library System
  • Extensive working experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Access, Excel, Word, Teams, and Sharepoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Friendly and approachable, with a customer-service orientation.
  • Able to exercise good judgment.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and a team-player.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of International Students and the challenges they face is an asset.


COMPENSATION:

In addition to working with an inclusive, progressive group of people, we offer a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.

This position’s hourly gross salary is $28.29.
