Manager, Central Library & Community Development

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The successful applicant will report to the Director, Library Services and participate as a member of the Library’s Leadership Team.
  • Responsible for the management of the Central Library teams and teams responsible for system wide programming, community collaboration and development.
  • Accountable for planning, budgeting, programming and measuring performance of specified library services and locations
  • Manages the recruitment, training and evaluation of both non-union and unionized staff
  • Responsible for operational compliance of statutory requirements of employee human rights, workers compensation and labour standards
  • Prepares corporate and Board reports and recommendations to the Director, Commissioner, Board and Council
  • Champions the Two Way Communication program
  • Participates as part of the Library Leadership Team, Corporate, Departmental and Divisional working groups, committees and special project teams as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • A recognized library science or information studies degree with 7-10 years’ experience as a professional librarian including experience at a senior administrative level in a public library setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of collection management, reference services and the impact of public libraries on community development.
  • Demonstrated supervisory, leadership, team decision making and team planning skills.
  • Proven analytical, strategic thinking and problem solving skills as well as the experience and knowledge to take risks, seek innovative solutions and champion positive change in the Library System.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with respect to managing human, financial and fixed assets and taking accountability for results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of both current and emerging technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to effectively communicate both in written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to liaise with the public, elected officials and outside agencies along with the ability to demonstrate superior customer service skills.
  • Proven success at developing, fostering and maintaining a healthy workplace culture.

Hours of Work: 35 hour per week

Salary: $95,994-$127,987
