The Canadian Federation of Library Associations / Fédération canadienne des associations de bibliothèques (CFLA-FCAB) invites applications for the position of Manager. CFLA-FCAB is the national voice of Canada’s library associations. Our purpose is to advance library excellence in Canada, champion library values and the value of libraries, and influence national and international public policy impacting libraries and their communities. Over twenty member associations work collaboratively to advocate on behalf of public and academic libraries, library workers, library trustees, and archives from coast to coast to coast.
CFLA-FCAB seeks a senior manager to perform the day-to-day tasks to keep the Federation running and to support the execution of our vision and mission. This is a 12-month renewable full-time contract position, reporting to the CFLA-FCAB Executive of the Board of Directors, normally through the Chair of the organization.
The Manager, as the principal representative of the Federation, works under the direction of the Executive Committee of the Board to meet the vision and goals of CFLA-FCAB, including the development of strategies, performance and management of actions, and assessment of results. This is a hands on-position—while the Manager will oversee work performed by external vendors, the Manager has no direct reports and will be expected to execute most work as an individual. Broad areas that require development and attention for CFLA-FCAB to fully benefit member associations include: participating in the development of a successful vision of CFLA-FCAB, and facilitating the development and fulfillment of CFLA-FCAB’s strategic plan.
The Manager oversees the budget and assets to accomplish CFLA-FCAB programs and projects. The incumbent ensures effective communication within CFLA-FCAB, with related associations, and with government at the federal and provincial levels. The Manager is responsible for maintaining and developing the CFLA-FCAB website, writing and editing content, developing meeting agendas for the Board and Executive, managing the financial records of the Federation, and other responsibilities as required. This work is carried out within an environment of cooperative and contractual arrangements.
The Manager interacts with senior association executives, government representatives, elected officials, and members of the library and archives community, and must be able to adapt to a wide range of leadership styles and to diverse opinions, while moving the Federation’s goals and projects forward.
Candidates should possess a suite of senior leadership attributes, with demonstrated success in delivery of organizational projects, preferably in the library or archival environment. Some of the most important attributes include:
The successful candidate may work either from home anywhere in Canada, or, if available and preferable, from an office location of a CFLA-FCAB member organization or affiliation.
To apply, please email a cover letter, current resume, and the names of three references to email@example.com. PDF or MSWord format is preferred for the application materials. The position is open until filled; the review of applications will begin April 3, 2017.
