As a valued member of our team, reporting directly to the Supervisor, Circulation and News, you will play a significant role as the first impression clients will have of the Branch by receiving their calls, greeting visitors, and providing exceptional customer service to Members of the Provincial Parliament (MPPs), officers and staff of the Assembly. You will also support the branch by playing a role in building the Library’s collection ofresources (e.g. press releases) archiving them to the Library’s digital repository, processing for documents shelving, and/or making them discoverable through the online catalogue.


What You’ll Do

You’ll act with integrity to:

  • Interact with MPPs and their staff, retrieving materials, and handling circulation transactions using an integrated library system (ILS)
  • Provide basic research assistance in a fast-paced environment to clients and reference support to Research Librarians and Research Officers, performing searches in print and electronic news sources such as Lexis Nexis, ProQuest, etc.
  • Assist with stack maintenance and shelving, update loose-leaf services, and process interlibrary loans
  • Assist with receiving, check-in and processing of Parliamentary and Sessional Papers, and Election Finance material
  • Assist with pickup and delivery to/from other libraries, local bookstores or organizations
  • Download publications (e.g. party press release)from the internet and archive to the library’s digital repository, following the Library’s collection policy
  • Create original descriptive cataloguing records for publications (e.g. party press releases)following international standards, such as RDA and MARC 21, and in-house policies
  • Offer suggestions related to collection management, including recommended discards of little-used and outdated material.

You’ll support our collaboration as you:

  • Are able to work both independently and collaboratively in a well-established team environment
  • Are a highly motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently or in a team and the flexibility and other skills needed to serve a client group with frequently changing priorities and tight deadlines
  • May be required to undertake occasional assignments outside the Circulation & News Services unit in addition to your primary responsibilities, such as collaborating with others on branch/division teams or special projects

How You Qualify

You demonstrate excellence through your:

  • Completion of a college diploma (a recognized library techniques program or equivalent is preferred) and up to 2 years of prior related /on-the-job experience.
  • Demonstrated advanced reading comprehension, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, flexibility, and demonstrated experience working under pressure
  • Proficiency in relevant computer technology systems and software applications
  • Experience working with Ex Libris (Alma/Primo) (would be an asset)
  • Service orientation, well-developed communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills, demonstrated experience working under pressure, flexibility to multi-task in response to clients’ changing priorities and deadlines
  • Enthusiasm and motivation, ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of the team to solve problems, share and communicate knowledge
