The South Interlake Regional Library is seeking a dynamic leader with a strong community focus and excellent financial and management skills to assume the role of Library Director. Our Regional Library has a dedicated staff who provide exceptional library programming and services to the residents of the RMs of Rockwood and Rosser and the Towns of Stonewall and Teulon. The system includes library branches in Stonewall and Teulon as well as a Bookmobile that travels throughout the service area. The Director maintains office space in Stonewall and is required to travel to Teulon on a regular basis.

The successful candidate will bring with them a proven reputation of success within a progressive public service setting. They will be focused on collaboration and will understand the importance of open communication with the staff, the Board of Directors, the public, and community stakeholders. The ideal candidate is someone who will inspire a culture of innovation, creativity and connection within the library and in the community. They will understand the value of public library services and the core role that a library plays in a rural community setting.

The Library Director reports to the Board of Directors for the planning, organizing, and implementation of all library operations and services, in accordance with the policies established by the Board. The Library Director advises and recommends policies to the Board and serves as Secretary/Treasurer. The Library Director is responsible for the management of library staff, setting the standards for the delivery of library programming and services, overseeing maintenance of all library facilities including the Bookmobile, managing the finances of library operations, preparing grant applications, and promoting and representing the library in the community.

The Library Director will be the leader of this vibrant team and will ensure that the residents we serve continue to have access to excellent, creative, and innovative public library service.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A post-secondary degree with a focus in business or library science or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of five years senior management experience.
  • A solid understanding of accounting principles including payroll and budgeting.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Library experience would be an asset.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Marketing skills that use a variety of platforms including paper, web-site and social media.
  • A proven self-starter who is a team player with a collaborative approach for leading and developing staff members.
  • The ability to maintain effective relationships with the Board, staff, library patrons, and community partners.
  • The ability to employ conflict resolution strategies and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to establish and implement short range and long range goals.
  • The ability to use and trouble-shoot a broad range of technology tools such as software, computers, common office equipment, and other digital communication tools.
  • An appreciation of reading and literacy along with an understanding of how libraries operate.
