Capilano University is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Scholarly Communications & Copyright Librarian for a limited term (12-month) maternity leave position.

The Scholarly Communications & Copyright Librarian is responsible for coordinating the planning, analysis and implementation of library services for scholarly communications and copyright. The librarian will share their knowledge of current issues, trends, and best practices, and new and emerging technologies in scholarly communications with the campus community. In this position, the librarian will collaborate with faculty and student researchers, and work with the Creative Activity and Research Services (CARS) office to implement research information management processes and tools for the university. The Scholarly Communications & Copyright Librarian will promote and manage the growth of Capilano University’s institutional repository, working closely with the Metadata and Systems Librarian and Digital Services Librarian. In consultation with programs, departments and other relevant bodies on campus, the librarian will develop collection policy and procedures to govern creation of new collections, copyright compliance, item ingestion and ongoing growth of the collection.

The librarian will work with the University Librarian to support copyright and fair dealing activities, and identify opportunities for education. The librarian will develop and maintain copyright education and tools for the campus community, including a copyright LibGuide and eLearn (Moodle) tutorial. The librarian will also act as copyright consultant to Library staff and faculty.

The librarian will support campus open education initiatives led by the Centre for Teaching Excellence.

This position will include teaching, research support, and collection development in the liaison areas of Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Management, as well as participation in teaching for the library’s English 100 program and other classes as needed. The librarian in this position will be expected to adopt this commitment. The librarian will also provide research help at the reference desk and AskAway.

Our library operates on a collegial model and is committed to using data (quantitative and qualitative) to reflect on our practice, align the library to its users’ needs and continuously improve. This librarian will need to collaborate closely with librarian colleagues, the University Librarian, Library staff, and partners across campus. This position reports to the University Librarian.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications:
MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution

Required Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated ability to forge relationships with a variety of community partners
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a team
• Knowledge of the Canadian copyright environment
• Education or experience in a broad range of scholarly communications topics, including research data management, research impact metrics, and author rights OR Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, trends, and best practices, and new and emerging technologies in scholarly communications

Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Experience or training in instructional design, including the use of learning outcomes, active learning techniques, and pre- and post-assessment
• Knowledge of open access (OA) and open educational resources (OER)
