About the position
Knowledge and Information Services (K&IS) is a business line within the Corporate Services (CS) Department of the Bank of Canada that provides expertise and services to help Bank staff effectively access and share quality data, information and knowledge.
We are looking for a Metadata and Systems Specialist to work in close collaboration with the Systems and Web Librarian to develop, maintain, control and evolve library systems, intranet, web sites and tools that facilitate access to the data and information resources available at the Bank. This position reports to the Manager, Information Resources and Tools.
Your future responsibilities
The Metadata and Systems Specialist is responsible for applying metadata for acquired data and information resources and supports maintenance of library systems and web applications to meet specific user needs.
You catalogue bibliographic and electronic resources by creating and enhancing original metadata to improve the discovery of collections online using applicable standards, such as MARC 21, AACR2 and RDA and Library of Congress Subject Headings. You provide ongoing maintenance and configuration of an integrated library system or library services platform. You offer first-line support for the resolution of problems related to the use of library applications and coach and train staff in the use of these applications and systems.
You leverage system usage data using analytics tools to identify and analyze existing and emerging needs for new applications or systems to improve user experience. You support the development and maintenance of K&IS related content for the Bank’s Intranet and you participate in planned initiatives for the year.

We are looking for a team player who is an effective communicator, has strong analytical and problem-solving skills and possesses strong attention to detail. You must have strong relationship management skills as you will be required to work closely with system vendor representatives, and you must have strong organization and planning skills that allow you to prioritize and oversee activities to efficiently meet objectives.
Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional in second official language. Training may be provided to help the selected candidate reach the required level of fully functional in second official language.
