SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Humber Libraries is looking for a progressive and innovative Collections Librarian. The successful candidate will assume a guiding role in collection development including developing and administering a collections policy, identifying goals and managing the collections budget, including setting fund allocations and monitoring fund expenditures. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining vendor relations, including the selection and evaluation of vendors and liaising with library consortia. The Collections Librarian advocates for fair terms and pricing, open access and new models of shared access.
This position is responsible for coordinating the Library’s collection maintenance activities and providing direction in acquiring library resources, including the application of new technologies related to collection development/management. The incumbent works effectively with other librarians to build consensus about new directions in collection development and collections assessment. Assisting in data analysis interpretation and reporting, as required for the purposes of library quality assurance, strategic planning and reporting, is integral to this position. The Collections Librarian will also provide research help services in person, instructional support to learners, and will assist with planning and implementing outreach activities to students and faculty. Participation in college and consortium e-resources and collections committees as well as special interest groups to share and build knowledge and identify best practices is part of this function.
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an American Library Association accredited institution. Advanced knowledge of library collection development in post-secondary education is essential. At least three years professional experience developing e-resource and library collections at an academic institution is strongly desired. Additional qualifications include: being incredibly tech-savvy; excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills; strong problem solving, advocacy, project management, relationship building and interpersonal skills; a proven commitment to customer service and to working in a collaborative and collegial team environment; the demonstrated ability to multi-task a variety of responsibilities and projects, and adaptability within a variety of professional contexts.
