NVIT anticipates the need for two Learning Navigators at our Metro-Vancouver campus and invites applications from qualified individuals. These positions are full time and ongoing positions that will commence when suitable candidates are found.
NVIT’s Learning Commons repurposes the traditional library concept. NVIT’s Learning Commons is the heart of an integrated service hub that provides resources and services for the campus community. The primary objective of NVIT`s Learning Commons is to enhance learning experiences through integrated support services in physical spaces with systems that support employees and learners to collaboratively and effectively share knowledge. The Learning Commons provides services that include sourcing digital and traditional resources and research, bookstore sales, learner record creation and maintenance, employee and learner Colleague Self-Service training and support, exam invigilation, tutoring, tuition and fee collections, LMS development and access, NVIT Portal system support and general IT related troubleshooting. Essentially, the NVIT Learning Commons is a physical space that delivers integrated and technology rich services and supports in a vibrant, welcoming, comfortable and functional environment. The space recognises the needs of different learners (individual and group) by hosting a mix of study spaces including individual/contemplative space through to collaboration/group workspaces.
Under the direction of the Manager of Campus Operations – Vancouver, Learning Navigators will provide broad supports and services in the areas related to library, enrolment services and education technology to the NVIT Community.
- Provide digital database and traditional resource support and tutorials as required;
- Assist the NVIT community with literary resource sourcing;
- Provide MLA and APA support;
- Assist with textbook acquisition and tuition and fees transactions;
- Participate in the hosting of campus-wide events and tours;
- Data enter learner applications with a high level of accuracy and create and maintain student record files;
- Assist learners through the self-service function of Colleague to register, as well as personally add, drop, and withdraw students from courses;
- Build course sections in Colleague;
- Process transcript requests;
- Respond to inquiries concerning application requests and procedures, student records and registration, and general program information;
- Assist the Student Success Centre Coordinator for delivery of holistic academic, career pathway, and peer support/mentorship activities;
- Provide information, training and resources that engage and support student achievement of individual educational pursuits;
- Support users of current and new NVIT technologies (train and troubleshoot) including video conferencing/moodle, ebooks, etc.;
- Deliver technical support (hardware, software, workstations, install systems and software, install and maintain printers, maintain systems, end user support);
- Create integrated moodle shells as requested by faculty;
- Provide faculty support for the construction of dynamic moodle-based curriculum sites;
- Network administration - maintenance, training, support;
- Other duties as required.
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one year experience working in the BC post-secondary environment preferably within an integrated student information system, equivalent education and related progressive experience may be considered;
- Electronics or Computer Engineering Technology Diploma and /or demonstrable proficiency in working within learning management systems, other Professional Certifications related to contemporary technologies and/ or a combination of education and related progressive experience may be considered equivalent;
- Library Technician Diploma or equivalent education and library experience may be considered;
- Proficient use and knowledge of computer hardware, software, networks and telecommunication systems;
- Extensive experience and proficiency with the following computer application software: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, MS Publisher), Prezi, Sharepoint, Colleague, Moodle;
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills;
- Demonstrated commitment to quality service;
- Demonstrated ability to work and problem-solve both independently and in a team environment;
- Self-motivated, independent problem solver with enthusiastic initiative;
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures is mandatory.
Annual Salary Range: $46,195.22 to $55,280.53
