Position Title:Branch Services Assistant

Location:St George Branch
Initial Schedule:30 hours per week
Tuesday and Thursday Noon to 8pm
Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm
Every other Saturday 10am to 2pm
Additional hours on Tuesdays once monthly during the school year
Hourly Rate:$25.45 – $29.78
Reporting to the Branch Coordinator, the Branch Services Assistant will assist readers of all ages in the selection and interpretation of library materials.They will perform professional duties that require adherence to standards of accuracy, timeliness, tact, and confidentiality. The position will also prepare and present children’s programs and other outreach programs.The position works a varying schedule including evenings and weekends which will include travel.
Candidates will possess proven excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with staff team members and excellent customer service skills with 2 or more years of experience in the public library setting and knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work.An in-depth knowledge of reference techniques as well as a broad knowledge of adult and children’s literature is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, experience with integrated library systems and a strong knowledge of new technologies is required. Candidate should have a proven ability to prepare and present children’s programs. Valid driver’s license and daily use of a vehicle is required.
A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field is required.A recognized library science or information studies degree or diploma is preferred.
