We need an outstanding Children’s and Youth Services Librarian to take our services to the next level. Your job will embrace everything we do for the littlest ones in our community. You will have freedom to innovate, constant contact with young library users, and the support of a small and committed team. Your duties will include developing, promoting, conducting and evaluating programming for babies to young teens. You will manage and develop collections, provide guidance for young readers, and organize events and outreach. Hanover is a busy and growing town in a rural area central to Grey and Bruce counties. It has four schools and three daycares including one Montessori. Our library is a single site, located downtown on main street and serving the town and area. The library is open seven days a week, and we have a team of twelve people, mostly part-time.Hanover is also home to Launch Pad Youth Activity & Technology Centre.
Early Childhood Education qualification, and/or Library and Information Technician diploma, or related discipline.
2-3 years of experience working with children in an education or library setting.
Experience assessing materials and developing book and resource collections for children & teens.
Experience building relationships and providing outreach to community partners.
A clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check will be required of the successful candidate, at their own expense.
Excellent rapport with children and teens, as well as adults.
Highly self-motivated with the ability to perform job related duties with little to no supervision, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Considerable knowledge of the development, needs and abilities of children and teens.
Ability to plan, develop, implement and maintain short and long term programmes and goals for children and youth services.
Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the general public, all staff, other government/agencies/libraries and community groups.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Windows, as well as office equipment, various computer software programs, internet, and Integrated Library Systems (ILS).
Excellent creative, organizational, communications, planning, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of legislation affecting children’s services and public libraries.
Ability to prepare and deliver Children and Youth Services activities, create attractive posters, displays etc.
Hours of Work: average 29 hours per week. Working hours may include some evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.
Wage: Hourly.$23.12 - $26.89
