East Gwillimbury Public Library (www.egpl.ca) serves a growing community in the northern part of York Region, made up of a mix of urban areas and villages. Branches are in the communities of Holland Landing and Mount Albert, with a third location opening in 2025.
Position Summary
Are you newly graduated? Bring your skills and expertise to the East Gwillimbury Public Library and join a growing team of community focused professionals. EGPL has a busy year planned with the launch of a new branch in September 2025. The branch will include a modern makerspace, recording studio, and a 35,000-item collection. Be a part of our biggest project yet. Additionally, the internship will assist with programs and outreach, including summer reading club, preparing for our annual used book sale, community events such as the Farmers’ Market, and more. This internship has core duties to support the Manager, Collection & Resources, the Manager, IT & Digital Experience, the Manager, Customer Experience, and Manager, Programs & Community Engagement. Each of these departments have core operating tasks that you will support, including providing exceptional customer experiences, digital marketing, STEAM programming, and Makerspace offerings and promoting the Library's unique collection. EGPL is committed to aligning personal and career interests to projects across the entire library system. Regular travel within the community is a component of this position. Weekends and evening shifts will be scheduled.
Qualifications
• Recent graduate with a Master of Library and Information Science degree (or equivalent degree) from an accredited library school.
• Have a sense of fun and enthusiasm for public libraries.
• Possesses a keen interest in services to all ages.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated experience and interest in working with innovative technologies such as 3D printing, Virtual Reality, Cricut vinyl cutters and more an asset.
• Demonstrated experience and interest in developing and delivering programs for children and youth an asset.
• Demonstrated experience and interest in customer service and working with the public.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel between library branches and outreach visits.
• To comply with the Young Canada Works Internship program, candidates must: -
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident status, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadian graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible)
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid social insurance number
• Be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment
• Be a graduate from college, CEGEP or university; and
• Be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory
Compensation
$25 per hour; 16-week contract
Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday; Saturdays and evenings may be required
Position Start Date: Monday, June 9, 2025
Position End Date: Friday, September 26, 2025
