East Gwillimbury Public Library (www.egpl.ca) serves a growing community in the northern part of York Region, made up of a mix of urban areas and villages. Branches are in the communities of Holland Landing and Mount Albert, with a third location opening in 2025.
Position Summary
As part of the Library's annual TD Summer Reading Club, the Summer Student Assistant plans and implements programs for children ages six and up, runs summer programs for children, tweens, and teens, and represent the Library at various community outreach events. They liaise with external programmers, coordinate and disseminate outreach and publicity in the community, and create library marketing materials as needed. Additionally, the Summer Student Assistant schedule and instruct teen volunteers for the TD Summer Reading Club, participate in special projects to further the Library's goals under the current Strategic Plan, and support digital literacy programming as needed.
Qualifications
- Must be attending college or university in Fall 2025.
- Students in Library, Teaching, or Early Education fields are preferred.
- Strong customer service, communication, digital literacy, organization, and research skills.
- Prior experience working with groups of children, such as theatre or camp experience, preferred.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a changing environment.
- Travel between branches will be required.
Compensation
$19.50 per hour; 12 week contract
Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday; Saturdays and evenings may be required
Position Start Date: Monday, May 26, 2025
Position End Date: Friday, August 15, 2025
