General Description: 

The Audiovisual Systems Integrator assumes a key technical and consulting role for a Faculty or unit, specializing in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of audiovisual systems. Supports the Faculty or unit throughout the Project Life Cycle of medium to large audiovisual projects, including training and maintenance. Develops a comprehensive understanding of the Faculty or unit’s operations and processes, aligning audiovisual systems to support these functions. Establishes, sustains, and oversees high-quality, multi-user audiovisual environments encompassing equipment, servers, software, and facilities. Guides the Faculty or unit in the selection of new audiovisual technologies, ensuring information security and services meet organizational needs. Offers expertise in technical architecture planning, participates in development project acquisitions, and manages the documentation, preparation, and integration of new audiovisual systems and services into the production environment. 

Representative Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Develop concepts and designs for audiovisual equipment and installation to meet room requirements. 
  • Analyze project requirements and desired outcomes to recommend solutions for various initiatives. 
  • Act as an on-site project manager, responsible for identifying, initiating, and managing projects from inception to completion. This includes estimating the time and resources that will be needed to complete the project. 
  • Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses, translating technical workflows into business-oriented language within the context of audiovisual systems. 
  • Read and understand a complex project plan and develop simple project plans. 
  • Critically evaluating information gathered from multiple sources, reconciling conflicts, decomposing high-level information into details, abstracting up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishing user requests from the underlying true needs. 
  • Follow relevant policies, regulations, codes, and safety protocols. 
  • Develop room solutions that meet the teaching and learning and operational requirements, are cost effective, and are future ready. 
  • Create and work with project and equipment specifications and schematics. 
  • Source pricing information and make recommendations. Purchase audiovisual equipment and related services within the defined budget. 
  • Negotiate AV services and project implementation contracts with multiple vendors. May require creation and evaluation of RFP responses. 
  • Manage vendor relationships for audiovisual equipment and service contract providers. 
  • Project manage, coordinate, and oversee AV solution implementation and upgrade projects across multiple sites within the Faculty or unit. Ensures projects are completed on time and on budget while performing and scheduling work around classroom and resource availabilities. Ensures audiovisual solutions meet the requirements and QA standards specified for the project. 
  • Develop testing methodologies for the solution and ensure that the solution meets project QA standards and deliverables. 
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new products and upgrades.  
  • Test, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, and upgrade various audio-visual and multi-media equipment including; web conferencing systems, recording equipment, streaming, captioning and wireless presentation equipment.  
  • Conduct regular QA equipment testing to ensure proper functionality and optimal performance of audiovisual equipment.  
  • Create and maintain documentation including; schematics, configurations, usage policies and procedures, reference materials and training guides.  
  • Create and deliver training sessions and presentations on the use of room audiovisual equipment including classrooms, conference rooms, labs, and recording studios.  
  • Provide advice and guidance to faculty, instructors, staff and students regarding the various technology and functionality available (including online/hybrid learning technologies, lecture recording, captioning and transcribing).  
  • Build and maintain an inventory for all audiovisual equipment. Update inventory based on installation, configuration, changes/upgrades, removal, warranty details, and vendor.  
  • Administration and management of central audiovisual management systems (e.g. Crestron Fusion).  
  • Program equipment for classroom systems integration allowing for effective and intuitive use, including API (or other) connectivity to central systems (i.e. central scheduling or building automation systems).  
  • Review system programming and configurations and recommend/perform changes as required.  
  • Ensure systems are configured and maintained as per industry best practices and university policies including system security, performance, and AODA.  
  • Create and maintain audiovisual continuous improvement/evergreen strategy, including estimating budget requirements and equipment refresh schedules.  
  • Ensuring system availability and continuity in event of equipment failure, such as ensuring warranty coverage, maintaining service agreements, and maintaining store of spare components.  
  • Effectively and efficiently identify, evaluate, prioritize, and resolve customer issues and complaints.  
  • Collecting routine information, processing documents such as correspondence and reports, and updating service catalogue.  
  • Leveraging the departmental ticketing system document instances of audio-visual equipment issues, equipment bookings, and technical assistance requests.  
  • Analyze and evaluate support tickets and make recommendations to reduce potential calls or increase efficiencies.  
  • Investigate and recommend means to improve service levels given technology trends.  
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor your own work within short time horizons.  
  • Organize individual time, work, and resources to accomplish objectives in the most effective and efficient way.  
  • Remain current with frequent developments in audiovisual hardware and software technology.  
  • Remain current with relevant development and project methodologies.  
  • Remain current with security policies and procedures and work with other members of the team to implement security changes.  
  • Maintain designation through ongoing professional development credits.  

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study.  
  • Requires CTS-I or CTS-D certification or equivalent.  
  • Requires 5 years of audiovisual technology experience, including 2 years of audiovisual integration experience.
