The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Manager, Programming & Outreach, this role is responsible for providing support to the Programs and Maker Specialist teams as they create, plan and deliver summer programs. They will assist with developing relevant, relatable and diverse programs for all ages that have broad appeal to the community while supporting the strategic goals of CPL. The role will be exposed to a variety of creative and emerging technologies, including but not limited to laser cutters, Cricuts, 3D printers and scanners, sewing and embroidery machines, a recording studio, photography equipment, design software (ex. Adobe, Canva, Library Aware), digitizing equipment, large format printer, and a direct-to-garment printer.
As the Assistant, Summer Reading & Maker Programming, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Assist in the planning, development and facilitation of summer programs for all ages, including those developed in partnership with community partners, and alongside CPL's Programs & Maker teams staff including CPL's new Community Librarian
- Assist customers in using the tools, equipment and software in the library’s makerspaces, including 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing and embroidery machines, Cricuts, recording and photography equipment, digitizing equipment, and a large format printer
- Assist with creation of select promotional material as it relates to supporting and developing early literacy skills.
- Participate in community events throughout the summer and across Caledon to promote the library’s programs, collections/resources, services and makerspaces.
- Develop increased confidence in supporting training of library staff and the public on the use of creative and emerging technologies.
- Co-create, plan and develop Fall 2025 programming for all ages.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an enthusiastic high school, college, CEGEP or university student who will be returning to school in Fall 2025. Our ideal candidate has experience working with Windows desktop and server operating systems, Active Directory and imaging, setting up and troubleshooting end-user hardware.
The ideal candidate will have displays an unwavering appreciation of and commitment to excellence in public library service by demonstrating relevant key competencies as per the Caledon Public Library’s Core Competencies; excellent verbal and written communication skills, superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and foster effective working relationships, demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision and display sound judgement, decision making and time management skills, etc.
This position offers a rate of pay of $20.62-$25.77 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week.
Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school, may be requested.
