Airdrie Public Library (APL) is seeking a strategic and relationship-focused Public Services Manager to join our Management Team. This is a critical leadership role responsible for shaping the public face of the library, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a collaborative, service-oriented culture.
The successful candidate will lead change management initiatives and optimize workflows, ensuring our growing community receives responsive and equitable service every day.

Position Public Services Manager (Management Team) Reports To Director Status Full-Time, Permanent Hours 37.5 hours per week (Irregular hours required, including evenings and weekends to meet operational needs.)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead Change & Continuous Improvement: Successfully manage organizational and procedural changes within the public service department, continually analyzing performance data to identify gaps and implement efficiency gains.
- Cultivate a Service Culture: Define service standards and actively nurture a culture of accountability, support, and joyful service among all public-facing staff.
- Optimize Operations: Design, implement, and monitor efficient public service workflows, scheduling, and resource allocation across all service points (in-person, digital, and phone).
- Team Development: Recruit, coach, mentor, and conduct performance management for Public Service Shift Supervisors and the Customer Service Coordinator.
- Policy & Governance: Advise the Director on policy adjustments, staffing models, and budgetary needs based on data analysis and service trends.
- Uphold Core Values: Ensure all departmental practices adhere to the APL mission and staff values, and champion the principles of Intellectual Freedom.
What You Will Bring
- Education: Master's degree in Library and Information Studies (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program is preferred. Relevant post secondary education combined with extensive public library management experience will be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a public-facing library environment.
- Essential Skills: Proven ability in Change Management, analytical problem-solving, and coaching staff to higher performance levels.
- Technological Proficiency: Superior proficiency with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and contemporary public library technologies.

What We Offer
- Hours: This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week.
- Salary Range: $78,760.50 to $102,004.50, commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.
- Benefits: This position includes a generous benefits package, featuring extended health and dental coverage, paid vacation and sick leave, and participation in the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP).
