Job Overview:
The Dufferin County Law Association (DCLA) is a professional, member-based association for lawyers in Dufferin County, operating under the guidance of a volunteer board of directions. The DCLA operates a small private law library located in the Orangeville Courthouse at 51 Zina Street, Orangeville. The library is part of LiRN (Legal Information and Resource Network), a network of 48 county and district courthouse libraries in Ontario. The library functions as a practical resource centre for local lawyers and visiting counsel. As the sole employee, the DCLA library manager is responsible for all aspects of the law library and reports directly to the DCLA Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
Client Services: The Library Manager is responsible for providing research, reference, and directional assistance, fulfilling document delivery requests, instructing and supporting patrons using print and electronic resources, and instructing and supporting patrons using various library equipment.
Collections: The Library Manager is responsible for acquisitions, processing, circulation, shelving and collection maintenance, as well as collection weeding/deselection. The Library Manager is also responsible for identifying and purchasing electronic resources that are deemed necessary or beneficial to DCLA members and visiting counsel.
Marketing and Promotion: The Library Manager is responsible for marketing the library collection and services, circulating emails relevant to association members from 3rd parties, maintaining the DCLA website, and supporting/developing DCLA community outreach initiatives.
Administrative: The Library Manager is responsible for bookkeeping, banking, drafting and adhering to a library budget and providing regular financial and statistical reports to LiRN, filing looseleaf releases, compiling library statistics, ordering supplies, managing mail, coordinating library access cards, processing annual memberships, organizing continuing education sessions for the local bar, organizing and leading the AGM, and assisting with the organizing of social events.
Essential Qualifications and Competencies:
- Librarian technician degree or equivalent
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Demonstrated planning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently
- Strong user-service focus
- Adept at establishing effective working relationships
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Proficient with Microsoft office and accounting software
Additional Qualifications (to further assess candidate suitability and confirm salary range):
- Graduate degree in library/information science
- Experience/training in a library setting
- Knowledge of legal and legislative resources
- Experience with preparing and managing budgets, payroll, accounts receivable/payable, account reconciliation
- Experience with Sage Accounting software
- Familiarity with WordPress
Salary and Benefits:
- $30.00 - $35.00 per hour, 6% vacation pay
