Job Summary

Are you passionate about community engagement, Jewish culture, and connecting people with information and ideas? The Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver (JCC) is seeking a Librarian or Library Technician to lead our Library—a beloved and inclusive hub serving the Jewish and broader community.

As the Librarian, you’ll oversee day-to-day operations, supervise a small team of staff and volunteers, maintain and grow the collection, and lead vibrant programs that bring people together around books, ideas, and culture. You’ll be part of a dynamic, community-focused organization with a mission to inspire connection, education, and creativity.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage the daily operations of the library, including collection development, circulation, and customer service

  • Plan and deliver engaging programs and events for all ages (storytime, book clubs, poetry readings, etc.)

  • Supervise, train, and support part-time staff and volunteers

  • Promote the library through outreach, marketing, and social media

  • Coordinate fundraising activities like the annual Used Book Sale and Night at the Library

  • Maintain library technology, database systems, and support infrastructure

  • Collaborate with JCC departments, Jewish organizations, and library associations

  • Prepare budgets, reports, and grant applications

What You Bring

  • MLIS or Library Technician diploma with relevant experience

  • Strong working knowledge of public library operations

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A warm, community-minded approach to service and leadership

  • Familiarity with Jewish customs and culture (Hebrew knowledge is a plus)

  • Experience with volunteers, fundraising, and program development

  • Proficiency in library technology and systems (e.g., Follet or similar)

Additional Information

  • The successful candidate must clear a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.

  • Salaried position with benefits: 30 hours per week (typically M-Th; 10am - 6pm)

Compensation

$26-$32 per hour commensurate with education and experience
