Reporting to the Head of Research Support Services (RSS) and under the direction of the Science, Engineering and Design Subject Area Coordinator, the Health Sciences and STEM Librarian delivers responsive and innovative services in support of students and faculty at Carleton University, with a primary focus on Nursing and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines
The Health Sciences and STEM Librarian also supports knowledge synthesis activities within a team-based model, contributing to the library’s evidence synthesis services through expert guidance and collaboration with researchers.
The Health Sciences and STEM Librarian is a member of the CUASA bargaining unit.
About the Academic Unit
The MacOdrum Library (https://library.carleton.ca) promotes excellence at Carleton University by collecting, preserving, and providing access to information resources and services for our teaching, learning, research, and administrative communities, wherever they are located.
The Library consists of a main building at the heart of the campus which holds over 3.7 million items and an on campus storage facility with a capacity of 800,000 volumes. There are 90 FTE positions in the Library including about 31 Librarians, 59 Professional Services Staff, and about 36 casual student positions. The Library participates in cooperative ventures with area libraries and museums as well as libraries in research institutions across Canada. It is also part of the Ontario Council of University Libraries and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network.
Qualifications
Education: Undergraduate degree plus a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited library school are required. Knowledge of nursing and STEM related disciplines acquired through university studies or professional experience is an asset.
Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in an academic or research library, preferably in a Health-related setting. Knowledge of digital information resources and applications and relevant teaching experience related to nursing and STEM related disciplines, with a strong emphasis on client services.
