Position Overview:
Ramara Township Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative eServices & Children’s Librarian to join our team. Reporting to the CEO, this role involves promoting library programs and services, developing, coordinating, and implementing programs for children and youth, and supporting the digital needs of the library. The successful candidate will also assist in digital content such as social media, website content, and enewsletters as well as conducting daily circulation duties. This position requires outreach and collaborating with community partners to enhance library services and foster a love for reading among young patrons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Children's and Young Adult Programming
- Designs and delivers engaging, inclusive programs for children, teens, and caregivers that reflect community needs.
- Uses creativity and developmental knowledge to create both in-person and virtual programs.
- Handles behavioral challenges positively and supports special needs participation.
- Collaborates with schools and community partners, and maintains online registration and program evaluation
- Circulation duties
- Manages patron registration, checkouts, renewals, and holds.
- Prepares reports, handles interlibrary loan documentation, and assists with material processing.
- Performs opening and closing procedures and reports facility issues.
- Customer service and public assistance
- Provides friendly, inclusive service to all patrons, including those with disabilities.
- Effectively resolves issues, answers inquiries, and refers patrons as needed.
- Promotes library programs and resources confidently.
- reader's advisory and reference services
- Offers tailored reading recommendations and reference support using library and digital tools.
- Supports early literacy and reading development aligned with school curricula.
- Curates book lists and displays; stays current on literature and resources for young readers.
- Guides families in navigating technology and safe online resources
- technology assistance and support
- Provides tech assistance and one-on-one training to patrons of all ages, especially youth.
- Supports use of digital resources, devices, and library systems.
- Creates reports, troubleshoots equipment, and updates online platforms.
- Trains others on new technologies and promotes digital literacy.
- marketing and promotions
- Leads social media and website content creation and updates.
- Designs promotional materials for programs and services across digital and print
platforms. - Manages eNewsletters and external marketing submissions.
- Develops creative displays and physical promotions within the library.
- Outreach
- Identifies underserved children and teens and develops targeted services.
- Fosters community partnerships to expand outreach and programming.
- Maintains ongoing communication with organizations serving youth.
- Promotes services through customized outreach strategies.
- Collection management of Children and YA
- Contributes to building a relevant, diverse collection for children and teens based on community input.
- Recommends acquisitions and weeds materials in coordination with staff.
- Applies and helps update collection policies and evaluates content regularly.
- Financial transactions
- Handles program-related financial tasks including budget tracking, petty cash, donations, and grant applications.
- Processes payments and purchases supplies within a defined programming budget.
- Supports fundraising activities and assists with financial reporting.
Qualifications:
Library and Information Technician Diploma, Bachelor of Education preferred.
First Aid and CPR are required.
G Driver’s License required.
Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) is an asset
Experience:
Minimum of 2-years’ experience of programming or children and young adults.
Experience working in a public library is an asset
Proficient knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office software applications, personal assistive devices, and office equipment.
Experience with website management or related website maintenance.
Experience with social media and marketing is an asset.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in a public library setting that requires frequent interaction with patrons of all ages and backgrounds.
• Exposure to a changing-pace, customer-focused environment with frequent interruptions and multiple concurrent demands.
• Shifts are not regular hours and may involve split shifts, weekends, evenings, and last-minute shifts.
• Works in indoor environments with artificial lighting and climate control; occasional outdoor activity may be required for outreach or special events.
• May be exposed to dust, cleaning supplies, or library materials that could trigger sensitivities or allergies. The mental effort requires a reasonable degree of concentration on a variety of activities, with frequent interruptions.
• Hours of work may vary considerably, including days, evenings, and weekends.
• Frequent requirement for moderate physical activity, including occasional lifting of boxes of books and materials.
• Assists in general maintenance tasks, including light snow removal.
