About the Position 

Full-Time Collection Services Librarian (Temporary Contract) 

Reporting to the Manager of Customer Experience, the Collection Services Librarian (full-time) provides circulation, information, reference, and reader’s advisory services to customers using a variety of resources including print materials, electronic information, and integrated library software. This position also coordinates the library’s physical and electronic collections/resources, as well as the interlibrary loan service including processing and fulfilling requests.  
 

Position Requirements: 

  • Successful completion of an accredited Master of Library and Information Sciences program.  
  • Two (2) years of professional experience working in a public library environment, providing service to the public and coordinating collection development activities.  
  • Proficient in relevant software applications including Office 365 and integrated library systems. Experience working in Evergreen is an asset.   
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with other staff, members of the public, and materials vendors.   
  • Ability to problem-solve in an effective manner; ability to exercise sound judgement when dealing with patrons.  
  • Ability to follow established routines with accuracy and attention to detail.   
  • Requirement for shift work, including evenings and weekends. 
  • Working knowledge of the French language is an asset.  

 

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Provides circulation, information, reference, reader’s advisory and technology assistance services to customers in person, on the telephone, and electronically.  Identifies and utilizes appropriate resources to satisfy customer requests including reputable print materials, online/electronic information, and the integrated library system.    
  • Registers new borrowers, retrieves/notifies patrons about holds, and renews library materials for users. Maintains confidentiality of patron information, records, and requests.   
  • Handles minor cash, debit, and credit card transactions. Reconciles daily cash against receipts.   
  • Coordinates the interlibrary loan service. Responds to patron inquiries, fulfills orders, and returns items to lending libraries.  
  • Coordinates collection maintenance processes including inventories, collection rotations, and materials deselection. 
  • Coordinates physical and electronic collection acquisitions, including creating/monitoring Automated Release Plans, selecting for direct orders, selecting magazines/newspapers, selecting electronic resources, fielding purchase requests, and other related duties.  
  • Compiles reports and statistics as required.   
  • May assist with library programs and community outreach activities.   
  • Performs other related duties as required.    

The rate of pay for this temporary, CUPE position is $31.63 – 37.97 per hour (2025 rates)  

 

Duration of Contract: Ending September 30, 2026 (with possibility of extension)
