Job Summary

The Circulation Supervisor oversees all circulation activities at the George A. Rawlyk Library of Crandall University. This position manages the circulation desk and supervises student workers to enable the library to meet the research needs of the university’s students, faculty, and staff. 

The position is responsible for the library’s frontline and patron-facing tasks, both through the direct performance of these tasks and through the assignment of these tasks to student workers. These tasks include processing interlibrary loans, helping patrons use the library’s technologies, and managing the till. The position also takes care of the library collection’s physical needs, including physically processing new items, repairing damaged items, keeping the stacks organized, and creating book displays. 

Key Duties: 

  1. Supervises a team of student workers including interviewing candidates, training new hires, coordinating the team’s schedules, and overseeing each student worker’s work 
  2. Manages patron relations including circulation services, patron record maintenance, fine collection, holds, reserves, the till, and policy enforcement 
  3. Facilitates interlibrary loans including loan requests from the Crandall community and from other institutions, encompassing such tasks as creating lender strings, delivering items to requesters, and flagging potential items to purchase 
  4. Plans and creates both digital and print book displays on both a periodic basis and in response to sudden events 
  5. Proofreads texts transcribed by student workers and prepares them for online publication 

Qualifications: 

  • University degree required 
  • Library technician diploma preferred 
  • Supervisory experience preferred 
  • Experience working in a high-volume public service area preferred 
  • Experience working with online library systems preferred 
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills 
  • Commitment to excellence in public service 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (including Microsoft Excel and Word) 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Ability to learn new technologies and procedures 
  • Ability to proofread for grammar, spelling, and punctuation 
  • Ability to evaluate materials visually 
  • Accuracy in handling monetary transactions

Compensation

$44,840 - $59,190

Salary: Level 3 - $44,840 - $59,190; placement on scale based on experience
