The Opportunity
As the CEO/Head Librarian, you will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day management of the Grand Valley Public Library. Reporting to the Library Board, you will model and promote innovation, community engagement, and excellence in library services.
Key Responsibilities
• Foster a culture of collaboration and innovation through development and implementation of strategic plans aligned with the Library Board’s vision.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, municipalities, and community groups as the public representative of the Library.
• Lead and implement fundraising initiatives to generate additional revenue in support of the Library’s budget, with support from the Library Board.
• In cooperation with the Board and Treasurer, prepare the annual budget, ensuring responsible use of public funds and policy compliance.
• Optimize Library operations to ensure high-quality service delivery and efficiency.
• Manage, mentor, and develop Library staff, promoting a positive and inclusive workplace.
• Ensure the Library’s physical space is well-maintained, safe, accessible, and welcoming for all users.
• Under the direction of the Board, oversee renovations, capital planning, and facility-related improvements.
What it Takes to do the Job
• Post-secondary degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent.
• Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a senior library leadership role preferred.
• Strong understanding of public library services, emerging trends, and technologies.
• Proven experience in strategic planning, human resources management, and facility operations.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
