Job Summary

North Vancouver City Library is seeking an enthusiastic, agile, service-oriented Book Bike Ambassador (Library Technician) to temporarily join our team full-time (May 11 - November 5, 2026). This term may be extended by mutual agreement or cancelled by the library at any time on two weeks’ notice.

The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting North Vancouver City Library’s book bike to various locations around the City. Being an ambassador for our popular e-assist book bike will require you to pedal your way to various outdoor destinations, bringing library services and books to people of all ages and abilities.

As the Book Bike Ambassador, you will:

  • Sign customers up for library cards;
  • Check books and other materials in and out;
  • Enable the mobile Wi-Fi hotspot;
  • Participate in pop-up storytimes and programs;
  • Spread the word and answer questions about library services and programs;
  • Connect with community organizations to deliver partnership programs; and
  • Deliver information services, including reference, reader's advisory and technical support, for people of all ages and backgrounds at all library service points.

Qualifications:

You must have good general knowledge of and the ability to provide library services such as account services, reader’s advisory, technology assistance, referral service and literacy-based programming.

The ability to pedal a Benno CX e-cargo bike with an attached trailer on shared, multi-use routes and in compliance with the rules of the road is essential.

Salary:

$30.70 – $36.08/hour (pay grade 16; 2024 rates) + benefits

Schedule:

North Vancouver City Library is currently piloting a flexible work arrangement for full-time (including temporary) employees resulting in an additional rest day during each two-week period.

Week 1:

Sunday – 9 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Monday – 8:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Tuesday – 8:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Wednesday – 1 – 9:15 p.m.

Thursday – 8:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Week 2:

Sunday – 9 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Monday – 8:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Tuesday – 8:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Wednesday – 12:45 – 9:15 p.m.

Schedules are reviewed periodically and subject to change with minimum two weeks' notice. Evenings and weekends are required.
