WHAT YOU WILL DO
Reporting to the Manager, Information and Program Delivery, the Reference Technician creates a welcoming and inclusive environment and provides information services and instruction to students and staff in the discovery and use of Library and Academic Services (LAS) resources in all formats. Duties include but are not limited to: delivering reference, circulation, and directional services across multiple service channels (in person, online, phone, and email); providing one-on-one research support and delivering library instruction sessions to develop learners’ information literacy skills and support independent research; assisting users with library systems, digital resources, printing, and basic troubleshooting of technology; and managing the lending of library equipment and supporting its use.

The Reference Technician contributes to the ongoing delivery and enhancement of library services, including creating and updating guides and instructional materials, supporting resource access, and participating in projects, committees, and service improvements within LAS and across the College to enhance the student and user experience.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- A Library and Information Technology Diploma or a combination of equivalent education and experience in library and information services
- Experience working directly with library clientele in a public service or client service setting
- Demonstrated ability to provide responsive, client-centered service and communicate effectively with students, faculty, and colleagues in one-on-one and group settings
- Experience searching library databases, catalogues and other online resources
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality reference services through multiple channels, including in-person, online chat, email, and telephone support
- Experience creating and maintaining subject guides using a variety of library tools and digital platforms to support research and information literacy
- Ability to troubleshoot and support the use of computers, software, and common technologies (e.g., printing, scanning, equipment)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and workload in a multi-demand environment
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
- Proficiency with common software applications (e.g., Microsoft 365) and the ability to learn new systems quickly
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

- Salary Range for this position: $54,571 - $76,814 per annum
- Generous Paid Vacation: full-time employees accumulate a minimum of 15-days vacation per year, increasing to 30 days with service, while full-time Instructors accumulate 44 days per year. Information on casual and part-time vacation accrual is outlined in the Collective Agreement or the Terms and Conditions for Excluded Employees as applicable
- December Break: employees receive time off with pay during the period between Boxing Day and New Year's Day
