Job Summary

Reporting to the University Librarian (UL), the Electronic Resources Librarian oversees the Library’s electronic resources collection. This includes acquiring, managing and evaluating e-resources, implementing e-resource management workflows, making recommendations to the UL, and promoting e-resources to the OCAD University community. The Librarian also assists colleagues with supporting infrastructure tasks related to electronic resources.

The Electronic Resources Librarian participates as a Liaison Librarian with specific OCAD University departments or programs. In addition, the incumbent provides reference (chat, email, virtual, and in-person) and library instruction and fulfills collection management and collection development duties.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Electronic and Digital Collections

  • Review and evaluate electronic resources and make recommendations for their acquisition, renewal, and cancellation
  • Develop and execute workflows to track and anticipate database renewals, consult stakeholders and make recommendations to the UL
  • Support the Coordinator, E-Reserves & E-Resources with maintaining and updating database statistics platform as required
  • Develop, execute, and maintain an electronic resources engagement plan, including creating promotional campaigns, collecting feedback, and communicating updates to the OCAD U community
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant University Librarian (AUL) in researching, evaluating, recommending, and planning continuous process improvement in e-resource management workflows
  • Assess usage patterns and recommend and implement user experience improvements for all of the library’s electronic and digital resources
  • Support the Systems Librarian and Coordinator, E-Reserves & E-Resources and the AUL with resource discoverability, vendor relations, e-resource licensing, database trials, brand consistency, and the A-Z Database list
  • Collect and compile usage statistics for internal use and annual reporting as required
  • Support the University Librarian in other related tasks or projects that contribute to the successful operations of Library Services

Library Liaison Responsibilities

  • Liaise with faculty and plan and provide library resources and services that support the delivery of university curriculum
  • Participate in the library liaison program: for assigned departments, conduct collection development and management of related library materials in all relevant formats (including deselection)
  • Perform library instruction sessions virtually and in-person; develop and send regular communications about new services and collections
  • Complete ECM and IQAP reports for cyclical reviews and course/program modifications
  • Work with library placement students on projects as needed
  • Collect and maintain data, metrics, statistics related to position and duties
  • Participate in social media outreach and communications initiatives
  • Represent the OCAD University Library on various committees and groups as required
  • Work scheduled shifts (e.g. mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends) at the reference desk, in-person and virtually, by chat, email, and phone, in all physical and virtual library spaces

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent education and work experience
  • Master’s degree in Art History, History of Design, or Computer Science, an asset
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, in a post-secondary academic library, preferred
  • Experience with library systems and/or discovery services (including Alma and Primo), preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of the academic library environment, preferably in an art, architecture, or design library
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and manage projects
  • Proficiency in using spreadsheets for data analysis
  • Familiarity with current library software and technologies (e.g., Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo, Springshare/LibInsight)
  • Experience with project management of digitized holdings
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty
  • Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend shifts, as required

Hours of Work35 hours per week

Compensation

Hiring Range - $78,188.81 to $89,469.29 per annum, commensurate with experience, plus benefits; Salary Range - $78,188.81 to $102,382.89 per annum.
