Applications are invited for the role Metadata and Collection Management Librarian on a term, from September 2024 (or when a qualified candidate is appointed) to August 31, 2025. This role is a sabbatical backfill.
We seek an individual with commitment to excellence in metadata and collection management in the academic library setting.
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, responsibilities include:
- Creation of original metadata for physical and electronic resources.
- Addition to, and optimization of, metadata for resources requiring complex cataloguing.
- Maintenance of extant metadata.
- Collection management activities, including collection development and coordinating deselection.
- Performing other duties related to metadata and collection management as needed to accomplish the goals of the library and the University, including digitization and preservation initiatives.
- In consultation with Library Council, coordinate revision of cataloguing and metadata policies and procedures as needed.
- In consultation with Library Council, coordinate revision of collection management policies and procedures.
- Provision of liaison services to one of the Faculties or Schools.
- Engagement in research, creative activities and scholarship.
- Engagement in service on Library and University committees.
- Maintaining awareness of new and emerging librarianship trends.
- Other professional duties as may be assigned by the Chief Information Officer (or equivalent) through consultation with the incumbent.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- An MLIS, MLS, or MISt degree or equivalent academic or professional credential, normally a Masters’ degree in librarianship or information sciences specialization, is required. - Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, management of physical and electronic library collections.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, management of metadata in integrated library systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience working in, a MARC21 environment using RDA, LCCS and LCSH to create original catalogue records
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with metadata schemas such as MODS and MADS.
- The ability to work independently and as part of the John E. Robbins Library team.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive, effective and collaborative work relationships and strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, decolonization and Indigenization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an academic library or research setting.
- Experience cataloguing music materials, such as scores and audio-visual materials.
Asset Qualifications:
- Project management experience.
- Experience working in an Alma/Primo environment.
- Experience worked with Islandora or other, related, Institutional Repository platforms.
- Experience liaising with academic faculties, researchers, or interdisciplinary research teams.
- Experience using language cataloguing tools and knowledge of additional language(s).
- Experience with authority files such as LCNAF and Canadiana.
- Experience with classification tools such as Classification Web and RDA Toolkit.
- Experience with Library and Archives Canada FC and PS8000 schedules.
Rank and Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience
