Reporting to the Supervisor, Acquisitions & Programming, the Coordinator, Youth Services provides library services to teens and new adults by designing and implementing creative and programs and services. The position works to create a bridge to and among youth community organizations, reinforcing the library’s role as a safe place youth can participate in programs, discussions and access resources. The Coordinator is responsible for the acquisition, cataloguing and maintenance of a young adult collection that encourages use of library materials, programs and facilities. The position provides library information, ready reference and customer service, while promoting and supporting library services and events.
Programming
Research, plan, design, facilitate and execute programs and services for teens, including arranging and facilitating author visits and the purchase of necessary program supplies. Develop programs to utilize teen volunteers and students completing community service hours. Assist and direct teen volunteers and students.
Aid in developing marketing and public relations campaigns for each program utilizing all media sources, schools and other community organizations.
Provide support for teens and new adults in how to access and use resources that support curriculum based learning and recreational pursuits.
Outreach
Advocate the library and literacy at various community events. Promote the library, its services, programs and resources through radio and television appearances, and by contributing to the library’s social network sites.
Represent the library by sitting on youth-related committees, as deemed appropriate by Supervisor or CEO.
Crisis Support
Deliver direct support, assistance and encouragement to youth and new adults experiencing crisis. Access resources for youth to develop effective connections with designated service providers, including, but not limited to, youth-serving agencies, prenatal care agencies, public health and agencies that work to end homelessness.
Collection Development and Maintenance
Develop, order and maintain a comprehensive, contemporary young adult collection in various formats by performing ongoing collection analysis including circulation statistics, timeliness and accuracy of collection composition and formats, new product introduction, community demographics and initiatives, and education curriculum.
Stay appraised of new developments and emerging trends and formats in youth related professional literature, publishing, etc.
Review and respond to library patron requests (generated from website, in-person, other electronic methods) regarding suggested material purchases.
Monitor and manage division expenditures and follow budget as outlined by Supervisor, and source economical purchase points.
