Introduction:

The Manitoba Geological Survey Resource Centre Unit manages Manitoba Geological Survey (MGS) resources on a range of internal and external issues and initiatives, including Manitoba's mineral and petroleum industry with a focus on public communications, stakeholder relations and engagement.

Conditions of Employment:

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary education in Library Technology or Library Science accompanied with work experience in a related work environment.
  • Experience with library functions, principles, standards and procedures and their application.
  • Experience with computer applications such as but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Integrated Library Systems (e.g. Inmagic DB/Textworks and/or Genie Plus) and other library applications and tools, Internet databases and resources.
  • Experience managing confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple and quickly changing work priorities.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare, edit and format correspondence with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience providing quality customer service to a diverse clientele (internal and external) and promoting library and web site services.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to provide information in a clear and concise manner with internal and external clients.


Desired:

  • Knowledge of geology, mining and petroleum industries.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff including providing training, guidance, and performance management.


Duties:
The position administers all Resource Centre/Library functions including cataloguing, reference/research services, collection development (acquisition) and maintenance, circulation, interlibrary loan (ILL)/document delivery management, library database management and publication distribution. The position provides internal and public services and support to meet staff and client information needs. The position provides supervision to the Resource Centre Assistant position.
