JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, Technology and Content, the Manager, Marketing and Communications will be responsible for supporting the overall business priorities of the marketing team, driving positive perception of the Library within the community, maintaining media relationships, proactively managing issues in a fast-paced environment, and collaborating with key stakeholders across all levels of the organization.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Director, Technology and Content
  • Collaborates with other members of the Management Team
  • Supervises professional, and other staff as assigned.Key direct reports include the Marketing and Communications Specialist and Marketing and Communications Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in communications, marketing or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ related marketing and communications experience, with at least two (2) years’ supervisory experience, preferably in a government, library or not-for-profit environment
  • Proven technical skills including email marketing, social media platforms, and website content management systems, as well as graphic design, publishing, and office productivity tools
  • Strong administrative, time management, and organizational skills
  • Business acumen and strategic agility required to maintain the Library’s growth and evolution within the community
  • Extreme attention to detail with extensive knowledge of proper grammar and spelling
  • Keen eye for visual design, and knowledge of web design principles
  • Experience with project management for large, complex projects is considered an asset
  • A police check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening, is required and is a condition of employment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Director, Technology and Content, and within a team culture:

Marketing and Communications Strategy

  • Plans, proposes, implements, manages, and evaluates all marketing and communications services for the Library, including managing the strategy for print and digital platforms, to include, but not limited to, social media, email marketing and public website
  • Advises the management team from a marketing and communications lens, including navigating sensitive issues, driving proactive communications, and helping to promote the Library as a progressive and relevant organization
  • Develops communications style guidelines for consistent organizational language, as well as internal communications processes
  • Creates communication plans for projects and events that inform, inspire, and build advocacy and awareness
  • Develops policies and processes to ensure quality and consistency of the Library’s marketing and communications activities while keeping abreast of, and keeping up with, emerging trends in the field
  • Builds and maintains strong and consistent brand, tone, and image for the Library
  • Manages Marketing and Communications operations to make the most effective use of resources, including staff resources, to support the Library’s overall organizational and strategic objectives
  • Participates in the hiring, coaching, training, supervision, evaluation, mentoring and motivation of Marketing and Communications staff members
  • Measures and reports appropriate performance indicators for the Marketing and Communications team
  • Oversees and approves graphic design, video production and written content for all teams across the organization
  • Manages the public website’s overall content strategy and navigation with support from the Information Technology team
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to increase membership, collection usage and program attendance
  • Contributes to the preparation of, and monitors the marketing budget and allocates funds wisely
  • Participates in complex projects that have system-wide implications, which may include taking on a leadership, or co-leadership role and always working in collaboration with other teams within the Library
  • Performs all other duties as required

Marketing and Communications Operations

  • Has responsibility for the strategic direction and operations of the staff and public IT infrastructure, services, and systems at all branches. This involves:
  • Oversees and approves graphic design, video production and written content for all teams across the organization
  • Manages the public website’s overall content strategy and navigation with support from the Information Technology team
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to increase membership, collection usage and program attendance
  • Contributes to the preparation of, and monitors the marketing budget and allocates funds wisely
  • Participates in complex projects that have system-wide implications, which may include taking on a leadership, or co-leadership role and always working in collaboration with other teams within the Library
