Manager of Technology and Collections SAULT STE MARIE , ON


The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of Manager of Technology and Collections.

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Manager of Technology and Collections is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing technology throughout the Library as well as overseeing the development and maintenance of library collections by managing the Technical Services Department.

Key supervisory responsibilities include: participating in staff hiring; training and supervision of the Collections Librarian and Technical Services staff; recruiting, selection, training, and supervision of volunteers; library technology including computers and servers; special projects as assigned.

Please note this position may require split shifts, afternoon/evening work, Saturday and Sunday work. It is understood that shift requirements may change due to operational requirements.

Applicants must possess the following qualifications:

  • Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited university program or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a medium sized public library.
  • Experience related to computer hardware/software support
  • Working knowledge of implementation and maintenance of ILS software, hardware, networks and associated web based services.
  • Experience managing a variety of networks and related computer hardware/software support.
  • Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with individuals, committees and organizations both within and outside the library.
  • Excellent project management and planning skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff and volunteers.
  • Physical ability and stamina to operate relevant equipment, to retrieve materials and to perform tasks including the lifting and movement of library materials and equipment
  • Driver’s License
